Over its 20 year program history, Family Solutions has provided services to over 24,000 women and families in Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Hampton, and Orangeburg Counties.
In 2016, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported our state’s infant mortality rate was 7.0 deaths per every 1,000 live births. While this rate has improved dramatically over the past 20 years, more work is needed to eliminate disparities related to infant mortality in South Carolina. SCORH’s Family Solutions is the program home for Low Country Healthy Start and Nurse Family Partnership, two programs with targeted efforts designed and dedicated to reducing infant deaths, illnesses, and improving the health of children, women and families in a five-county region of South Carolina. Headquartered in Orangeburg, the Family Solutions team works specifically to improve the health of rural and underserved women and infants. To do this, Family Solutions staff members actively work with three groups: women and their families; health providers; and community, faith, and civic leaders.
We know that women and infants need support services that eliminate the barriers they face in effectively accessing and remaining in health care services. Through the work of the Family Solutions team, access to and use of these services are enhanced and pregnancy and child health outcomes are improved.
