Network Development

SCORH’s Network Development efforts date back to 1998 and have impacted 24 out of 46 counties across the Palmetto State.
Ensuring access to quality health care in rural communities is a team sport. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 15% of our state’s population lacks health insurance; and even for those with health coverage, high deductibles and co-payments are a barrier for some. To address these access barriers for patients related to the cost of care, SCORH supports the development and maintenance of networks of health care providers who together can leverage resources and align services in order to provide the right type of care at the right time to as many patients as possible. Network partners often include hospitals, free clinics, certified Rural Health Clinics, Community Health Centers, physicians, medication providers, behavioral health providers, local health departments, and social service providers, among others. Our network development efforts include support of South Carolina’s Rural Health Networks, of which there are currently five: Coastal Plains, Lakelands, Northeastern, Tri-County, and Upper Midlands. In addition, SCORH is proud to work alongside the South Carolina Hospital Association to support the AccessHealthSC and Healthy Outcomes Plan networks. We believe these efforts are key to improving health outcomes and reducing system costs through better coordinated care for uninsured, chronically ill patients.
