At this year’s 28th Annual Rural Health Conference in Hilton Head, the South Carolina Office of Rural Health (SCORH) had the honor of celebrating five exceptional rural healthcare providers and community organizations who are making a real difference across our state.

Each award recipient received a custom, hand-crafted commemorative plate featuring the Palmetto State emblem, created by artist Renwick Price Shealy—a beautiful tribute to their impact and service.

Here’s a look at the 2025 honorees:

🩺 Rural Practitioner of the Year: Dr. Henry Marion

Dr. Marion has been caring for families at Lexington Medical Center Swansea Primary Care for more than 40 years. His long-term commitment to his patients and his community has helped strengthen access to primary care for generations.

🚶‍♀️ Outstanding Community Health Project: Getting Back on Our Feet – Lane, SC

This initiative is transforming walkability and mobility in the small community of Lane. By improving access to safe spaces for movement, the project is helping residents live healthier, more active lives.

☀️ Power of Rural Award: Solar United National

Solar United National stood out for their work advancing workforce development and technical innovation in rural communities. Their efforts are helping bring clean energy and new economic opportunities to parts of the state that are often overlooked.

🚑 Rural Health Provider of the Year: Lee County EMS

In a county without a hospital or freestanding emergency department, Lee County EMS plays an essential role. Despite the challenges, their team remains committed to delivering high-quality emergency care to every resident who needs it.

🌾 Pioneer Award: Dr. Samuel R. Stone

With more than 40 years of service in Chester County, Dr. Stone has become a trusted and beloved figure in rural healthcare. His dedication to providing continuous, compassionate care has made a lasting impact on his community.
