Dr. Luis R. Vega is a family medicine specialist who has been practicing in Hampton, SC, for almost 20 years. When tornadoes ripped through the county on April 13, Dr. Vega knew it would be devastating for his community, which was already feeling the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Vega had already established the Vega Foundation, which had donated several thousand dollars to Estill Community Pharmacy. In partnership with the pharmacy, Dr. Vega began using those funds to cover his patients’ copays and pay for their medications.

“I lost several patients in the tornado. They were like family to me. Additionally I have several patients that lost their homes,” Dr. Vega said. “My patients have been there with me for over 20 years and in their time of need I want to be there for them.”
