The South Carolina Office of Rural Health (SCORH) honored seven rural healthcare providers and community members at the 26th Annual Rural Health Conference. Each year, SCORH recognizes those in our rural communities who have shown excellence in their work to make their communities healthier, either through direct healthcare delivery, or efforts to make their communities stronger and more resilient.

Each of the following honorees received a Palmetto tree on fused glass in an iron frame created by Pat Stone of GlassyLady, a member of the SC artisans in Walterboro (awardees    pictured above, left to right).

   

Annual Award Winners:
Rural Practitioner of the Year Award: 
Dr. Frank Stewart, a pediatrician at Oconee Pediatrics in Seneca, SC
Pioneer Award: Dr. Charles McElmurray, a family medicine physician for over 40 years and founding physician for the John A. Martin Primary Healthcare Center in Winnsboro, SC
Award of Excellence: Donna Avant, R. Ph., owner and pharmacist at Ehrhardt Pharmacy
Rural Health Provider of the Year Award: Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, a family practice free clinic serving as a medical home to the uninsured and underserved of Kershaw County. (pic: Susan Witkowski, CEO)
Rural Health Leadership Award: Lathran Woodard, CEO of the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association (pic: Kenya Mingo, Director of Corporate Compliance and Communications)
Power of Rural Award: Steven Brown, Founder-President, Dreams Imagination & Gift Development Program
