Thursday, November 19, 2020, marks the 10th annual National Rural Health Day.

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) sets aside the third Thursday each November to “Celebrate the Power of Rural” by honoring the selfless, community-minded, “can do” spirit that prevails in rural America. The day also gives us a chance to bring to light the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face, and showcase the efforts of rural healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health and other rural stakeholders to address those challenges.

The SC Office of Rural Health will celebrate NRHD by recognizing our six annual award winners, as well as South Carolina’s Community Star, named by NOSORH. You can follow along with us on FacebookTwitter, Instagram (@scruralhealth) or our website for these celebrations throughout the day.

NOSORH will host “Surviving & Thriving: The Power of Rural is 100% Community,” a live virtual event at 2:00 p.m. on November 19. Click here for more information.

NOSORH is also offering a free online screening of “The Providers” documentary through November 21. Set against the backdrop of the physician shortage and opioid epidemic in rural America, The Providers follows three health care providers and their patients to show their courage, commitment, and tenacity.
